» Jump to Business and Trading Details

A young business based in Australia and serving the world. Located just north of Brisbane on a very pretty sub-tropical Island (Bribie Island), this privately owned business is run by myself, Ben Kross. Hi, it's nice that you dropped by!

What it's all about:

Quick to load websites that do what they're supposed to do. If it's about money, then your site should sell. If it's about getting people to act on supporting a campaign, then it should motivate. In short I'm passionate about finding the laser line from the mouse click to the result at the server-side.

I've been involved in web design since the early days in one way or another. I still like to write sites by hand, rather than use any one web development interface. As the business grows so will the depth of field of farcool product offerings. I will be employing local developers as demands require over time as well as contracting out work to selected specialised service providers to meet client needs as necessary.

For clients, there is a delicate balance to be struck between what can be done to advance things and what is actually needed to get there. I never want farcool to be hard selling anyone, nor pressing clients to do anything they don't need or want. That being said, I also don't want to shy away from giving forthright advice.

Who it's all for:

There are three main customer groups who can benefit:

  • Design clients - wanting a web site designed and implemented
  • DIY clients - wanting do-it-yourself online services from domain registration, hosting and monitoring performance
  • Hands off clients - wanting a total management service solution

I'll add some detail below to illustrate these groups.

Design clients

Individual web designs can be simply a matter of redisigning an existing site or as complex as starting from a napkin sketch through to a fully operational network of related content sites. Every one's needs are different. If you already know what your site should do, and you already have all your artwork in hand, a site can be quite fast to complete. Most will already have started the process - I'd like to help people get to the next level. On the other hand, many will need a whole design from scratch. In that case we can work out a budget based on what is needed. Everything can be as you wish. For example, you may already own your domain names, already have hosting etc. I'm not interested in making you suffer a change just because we offer something cheaper or more stable - the whole process is up to you and we agree on the budget.

DIY clients

Do-it-yourself customers can purchase a large range of web services through FarcoolMart, a fully functioning secure web shopping centre online. There's little that can't be self managed here. From domain name purchase, shared or dedicated hosting, SSL certificates, a plethora of tools to get started with. I've chosen the most fully featured offerings possible because through experience, I know how frustrating it is to find a service which does everything BUT that one thing you really need! FarcoolMart.com offers a retail experience based on the same technology used by the largest internet service companies in the world. It is backed by 24 support and it's only going to get better. I'll be happy to help personally to get you signed in, up and running and satisfied.

Hands off clients

Some people and businesses wish to delegate the running of their web presence to a web team so they can continue to do what they do best in business without the hassle of getting to grips with the minutia of their technological challenges. Some just want a solution to existing problems with their sites and want someone to fix it without wasting their time with the details. For these clients, again it's a matter of beginning with a budget and working out what's possible from there. farcool will pro-actively take each client's interests into account and offer timely advice pertaining to their best course of action within the budget.

Within each group listed above are businesses who are more aware than ever that they need (and want) the right domain name for their business and farcool is not in the market place to convince anyone of that. It is self evident. I see managed customers as those businesses and individuals who have already thought enough about the above and now need help with the next steps. From actually registering their name, launching their web sites and working on ways to monitor its performance.

If none of the above works, based on a client's needs there are other options and service providors we can manage to cater for those - Let farcool worry about all the details so you can keep moving.

Business and Trading Details

The business "Farcool" is registered in Australia by Ben Kross, sole proprietor - ABN 36 471 670 757. The name "Farcool" is (TM) Ben Kross T/A Farcool. I will most likely be using the Madrid Protocol for international trade-marking. More about that below.

What type of business is farcool?

This is an Internet services business. The business was registered in Australia in April 2007. The dot com domain name has been owned for more than a year prior to registering the business in Australia. As well as designing and selling web site design and related services, the business will manage its own portfolio of domain names (and manage those of clients). It will further develop potential brands, trademarks and products. To sum up all services for clients, farcool can make your new web site, save or revamp your old one or be retained to manage your next web project or detailed web management requirements including domain management and online strategies.

Making payments

Pay Pal is preferred because it's truly the most universal, trusted and simple method for customers in the greatest number of countries. The Pay Pal related email to use when making payment to Farcool is b@farcool.com - please visit Pay Pal for more information. You may make many different payment types at our online eStore at FarcoolMart, MasterCard and Visa credit cards from anywhere in the world. Otherwise, by arrangement, checks (cheques) can be made payable to Farcool and sent via mail - see contact page for address.

Understanding farcool's domain names

Other domain names relating to this site include the Australian registered domains (farcool.com.au and farcool.net.au). The main site is farcool.com - if you are in Australia, you can also use "farcool.com.au" - it's more or less the same but may begin to change over time to best fit the Australian market. Other top level domains will follow, but you can't go wrong with visiting "farcool.com".

The farcool domain name portfolio is small in comparison to some leading holders and is always growing. Some of these domains have been test beds for installations of web related software and various experiments with dynamic content management and open source products. Other domains are intended for business expansion needs and general extensions to farcool and other businesses into the future. Some domains have been retired from service for the time-being. Some domains will be sold off and new ones will be bought over time. Some will be monetised and others will be re-directing to the main web address. Some domains are virtually worthless to other parties whilst other domains are arguably valuable and becoming moreso to more people. The web is again at an interesting stage of development and I would like to think that domain ownership is one of the better investments anywhere. I think that physical real-estate faces a tougher 10 years ahead. 'Virtual' real-estate (owning server space and/or domain names etc) is becoming less scarce in terms of becoming less expensive and with ever-improving technology and equipment. This generational increase in value as the namespace becomes more crowded seems to go on without abate. Of course, the most valuable domain names will always be scarce and therefore a more valuable resource but there is still a market for long-tail names. The science is in discovering what works over time - an area of great interest.

Forecasting future trends etc

The websites made by farcool deliver high rates of accessibility and cross-browser compatibility, depending on client requirements. We recommend Linux hosting and associated platforms but there are reasons for everything, including which hosting platform to choose. We can help you choose. At the simplest, let us take your old web site and make it available to more viewers for you. You won't be disappointed. By removing the extraneous and useless code from your old site you may get a welcomed boost in search engine results and more than halve the time your site takes to load in the browser. The future of the Internet as a whole is a fascinating thing on which to speculate. One thing is certain and that is, that there are more delivery platforms coming before the traditional Internet has even noticed.

These are exciting times to be online. There is the advent of ever more useful mobile devices with better ways of utilising content. My outlook is that these devices will demand more convergent specifications and there will be even more crossover of "web standards" with mobile device requirements. Java could be hot. I'm seeing a time when Open Source devices powered by blue chip distro's are doing swell deals to port services across divergent networks - seamlessly - at VOIP rates and WITH full web convenience PLUS automation built in ala a certain search engine.

Style guide: use of trade-mark

The following should apply to those who might use the trade-mark within their resources. Please ignore this if you are not a marketing or an advertising agency, publisher, media, or a partner or affiliate who is representing farcool in some way - or if you don't need to officially reproduce the logo or mark. (This guide is in beta and may be moved to a press kit page soon).

  • When publishing the Farcool logo, please keep dimensions and the small TM visible. Screens will not all display the TM clearly depending on logo size and screen resolution - that is within reason, within reason. Otherwise please consult the upcoming press kit (soon) to find a suitable logo with sizing to match your intended output size/res.
  • The Farcool logo text (Sans text - Dejavu Sans works well) and the specific colour combination, along with the uncapitalised first letter 'f' will define that portion of the registered trademark which is the main quotient of the mark.
  • In plain text: A capitalised 'F' is ok anywhere within the text and also at the beginning of sentences.
  • A publisher wishing to reproduce the mark in text or on the web and accompany it with the official colour (hex: #c6bde1, rgb: 198,189,225, cmyk: 12,16,0,12) you may do so without the capital 'f'.
  • In short, within plain text Farcool is a proper noun, capitalised except when dressed up with trademark colours. In that instance the small 'f' works either at the start of sentences or anywhere within the text.
  • If referring to the trademark in articles, or if using the logo in some way under fair use, please link to or reference http://www.farcool.com with a line of text (very small, at bottom of article or page is fine) eg.,
